The Samba Boys
Five stars. Twenty-two World Cups. One obsession.
Group C. New Jersey. Philadelphia. Miami. Three cities. Three opponents. One obsession that’s been burning since 1958 and shows no sign of going out.
Morocco in the opener. Haiti in the middle. Scotland to close it out. On paper, Brazil’s group before a ball is kicked. The paper said the same thing before Croatia knocked them out in 2022. And before the 7-1 in 2014 that Brazil still hasn’t fully processed. Brazil don’t play matches. They carry the weight of a nation into every one of them. That weight can crush or it can ignite. In 2026 there’s no middle option.

Game 1 — Brazil vs Morocco
The game that opens Group C. MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford. Ninety thousand. The biggest crowd Brazil will play in front of since the Maracanã. And they’re walking out against a side that isn’t coming here to make up the numbers.
Morocco aren’t the underdog story they were in 2022. They’ve won AFCON. Ranked eighth in the world. Regragui has had four years to build on what he built in Qatar. The defensive shape that frustrated Spain, Portugal and France hasn’t gone anywhere. Achraf Hakimi is still the best right-back on the planet on his day. Bounou is the goalkeeper who saved penalties against Spain with two stops in the round of 16 — and he’s only got better since.
Brazil are the favourites. They should be. But this is the most difficult opener they could have drawn, and the bettors who slow down before placing it blind on a Brazil win are the ones who watched what Morocco did in 2022.
Rebel Take
A tight, edgy opener. Morocco will make Brazil work for every chance. The draw and the upset both have more to them than the headline price suggests. Check the live lines at Lucky Rebel before placing — this one’s worth the extra thirty seconds.

Game 2 — Brazil vs Haiti
Haiti haven’t been at a World Cup since 1974. Fifty-two years. They arrive in Philadelphia as the longest-absent team in this tournament. Their squad is built around players in MLS and the lower reaches of European football. Brazil are heavy favourites.
But this is the game where Brazil face a different kind of pressure. Not from the opponent. From the expectation. The Brazilian public and press don’t want a win. They want a statement. Anything less than a comfortable margin will be read as a warning. The weight of five stars doesn’t get lighter when the opponent is weaker. Sometimes it gets heavier.
Vinicius, Raphinha, Rodrygo. Lincoln Financial holds 68,000. It will be green and gold as far as the eye can see. Brazil need to deliver. The market will have a view on how much they deliver by.
Rebel Take
Brazil win. The question bettors are asking is by how much — and whether Haiti, a side with nothing to lose, keep the margin tighter than the market expects. The handicap line is where the interest lives on this one.

Game 3 — Scotland vs Brazil
Scotland haven’t been at a World Cup since 1998. Twenty-eight years. They qualified from a group that included Spain and Norway. They did it the hard way. They always do it the hard way. They’ll arrive in Miami knowing exactly what they need from this game — and they won’t be coming to take a photograph.
The head-to-head is brutal for Scotland. Brazil won in 1974, 1982, 1990 and 1998. The one draw, a 0-0 in 1974, is the best result Scotland have ever managed against them. In football terms this fixture has been a one-way conversation for half a century.
But Miami is not Hampden. If Brazil have already secured qualification — which they should have by this point — Ancelotti rotates. Scotland, with nothing to lose, in a stadium with thousands of Tartan Army who saved years to get there. The group finale is never as clean as the top seeds plan for.
Rebel Take
A rotated Brazil side, a Scotland team on a mission, Miami in June. The Tartan Army will be loud. Don’t sleep on this one. Check the full preview and the live lines before the group stage dust settles.
