This round did not exist before 2026. The 2026 World Cup is the first ever to feature a Round of 32, and it lands first on the bracket as the new format’s most exposed test. Forty-eight nations played the group stage. Sixteen go home before this round even starts. Thirty-two fight on.

The math is simple. Twelve group winners qualify directly. Twelve group runners-up qualify directly. The eight best third-placed finishers across all twelve groups complete the field of 32. Which third-placed team ends up in which slot is not known until the group stage finishes, hence the placeholders below. FIFA’s seeding rules lock the bracket the moment the group standings settle.

From this round on, single elimination. No second chances. Win or go home.

Sixteen fixtures across six days, June 28 to July 3, 2026. Fourteen different venues used in total. Every host country gets at least one fixture, with the bulk landing in the US.
