New England Patriots
Odds

Next game odds, playoff outlook, schedule and Super Bowl history.

New England is the reigning AFC champion. Seven months ago they were a quarter away from a title, losing Super Bowl LX to Seattle. The bar in Foxborough is no longer making the playoffs. It is getting back to the final Sunday and finishing the job.

Mike Vrabel built that in a single year. The roster got better this offseason, not worse. And the one thing every contender needs, a quarterback the rest of the league has to plan around, is already in the building.

Lucky Rebel’s Editor Top Pick

Drake Maye is the whole thing. Third year, twenty-three years old, coming off a season with 4,394 passing yards, 31 touchdowns and a league-high 72 percent completion rate. He carried New England to a Super Bowl. Now he has a genuine number one receiver in A.J. Brown. While Maye plays like this, the Patriots are dangerous to anyone.

Patriots to make the playoffs

MarketYesNo
New England Patriots to make the playoffs-215+160

Our call: they make it. At -215 to make the playoffs, the market agrees, and so do we. New England won 14 games last season and reached the Super Bowl, and the roster added rather than subtracted. The catch is the schedule. A first-place finish buys a first-place slate, so the road is harder than the one they walked last year. A wild card is the floor. The division and a top seed are the real targets.

Mike Vrabel and the climb back

Vrabel is the constant. He turned New England around in one season, took them to within a game of the title, and is not going anywhere. The culture is set. What changes in 2026 is the level of expectation, which has moved from hopeful to demanding.

Owner Robert Kraft and the front office, with Eliot Wolf running personnel, backed that climb with money and trades this offseason. Championships are the stated goal again. In Foxborough, that is not new language. It just went quiet for a while.

Josh McDaniels, Zak Kuhr and the staff

Josh McDaniels returns as offensive coordinator for a third stint with the franchise, the man calling the offense and tutoring Maye. Maye has described himself as an extension of McDaniels, which is the relationship you want between a young quarterback and his play-caller.

The defensive coordinator chair changed hands. Terrell Williams ran the unit during the Super Bowl run. For 2026, Zak Kuhr was promoted into the role. The scheme stays Vrabel’s, built in his image, so the change at the top is more about voice than philosophy.

The Patriots playing staff

The headline move was the A.J. Brown trade, sent from Philadelphia for a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth. Brown gives Maye the bona fide number one he lacked, a receiver with a championship pedigree. Romeo Doubs arrived from Green Bay to deepen the room, and Christian Gonzalez anchors the secondary.

This is a roster built to contend now, not to rebuild. The pieces around Maye are better than the ones that reached the Super Bowl. That is rare for a team coming off a conference title, and it is why the pressure has gone up rather than down.
