New Orleans Saints
Odds

Next game odds, playoff outlook, schedule and Super Bowl history.

New Orleans is building around a young quarterback and a strong defense. Kellen Moore’s first season ended 6-11, but the Saints closed by winning four of their last five, including a 4-0 December, and found a starter in rookie Tyler Shough.

Shough went 5-4 as the starter after taking over from Spencer Rattler, and Moore has named him the quarterback for 2026. With a top-10 defense and a young, cap-controlled passer, the foundation is more promising than the record suggests.

Lucky Rebel’s Editor Top Pick

Tyler Shough is the bet. He took over midseason as a 26-year-old rookie, went 5-4 as the starter and posted a solid passer rating, enough for Kellen Moore to name him the guy going forward. Moore, who coordinated a Super Bowl offense in Philadelphia, is the kind of play-caller who can develop him. Pair that with a top-10 defense and there is a real base here. The question is whether the offense has enough around Shough.

Saints to make the playoffs

MarketYesNo
New Orleans Saints to make the playoffs+175-240

Our call: they miss it. At +175 to make the playoffs and -240 to miss, the market sees a team a year early. The late surge and Shough’s emergence were genuine positives, but a young quarterback, a tight salary-cap situation and questions in the receiver room point to more building before contending. The defense keeps them competitive. A full playoff push likely waits another year.

Kellen Moore in year two

Moore arrived from Philadelphia, where he coordinated a Super Bowl-winning offense, and rallied the Saints from a 2-10 start to a 4-0 December in his first season. That finish, undefeated in the month for the first time since 2011, was a sign the staff had the room’s attention.

A young, offensive-minded head coach with a cap-controlled starting quarterback is a workable starting point. Moore’s task in 2026 is to keep developing Shough and add enough around him to climb out of the division’s basement.

A young offense and a top-10 defense

Moore calls the offense and builds it around Shough, protected by a pair of promising young tackles in Kelvin Banks Jr. and Taliese Fuaga. Integrating young players was the theme of year one, with several rookies forced into key roles.

The defense was the team’s strength in 2025, finishing among the league’s top ten in yards allowed and fourth against the pass. That unit, with young contributors like Quincy Riley and Jonas Sanker, gives New Orleans a foundation to build the rest of the team around.

The Saints playing staff

Tyler Shough is the centerpiece, with receiver Chris Olave and tight end Juwan Johnson as his top targets. Olave put together the best season of his career in 2025 before a blood clot in his lung was discovered late in the year, and his status is being monitored carefully by the medical staff in the offseason.

The roster is young and cap-strapped, which limits how much help can arrive at once. The defense is the strength and Shough is the hope. New Orleans is laying a foundation, and 2026 is about whether the young pieces take another step.
