Our call: they miss it. At +115 to make the playoffs and -150 to miss, this is the closest call in the division, and the board leans slightly toward missing. Tampa Bay has the quarterback and a sensible coordinator hire, but a team that won two of its last nine games has to prove the collapse was a blip. The defense needs to rebound and the offense needs to gel under Robinson. In a weak division, they are live, but the doubt is earned.
Todd Bowles after a collapse
Bowles kept his job in a year ten head coaches lost theirs, but the 8-9 finish and missed playoffs forced change. He began his run with three straight division titles and playoff trips, and 2025 was the first miss. He overhauled the staff to get back to that standard.
Bowles runs the defense himself, and that unit has faced criticism for its pass coverage in recent seasons. Getting the defense back to a high level, while a new coordinator fixes the offense, is the two-part assignment for 2026.
Zac Robinson and a new offense
Zac Robinson is the key hire, arriving as offensive coordinator after two productive seasons calling Atlanta’s offense. He comes from the Sean McVay coaching tree and knows Baker Mayfield well from facing him twice a year in the division. The job is to get the offense back to the level it showed early in 2025.
Robinson replaces Josh Grizzard, who left for Philadelphia, and brought assistants with him to install his system. A fresh scheme built around Mayfield’s strengths is the bet to turn a late-season collapse into a bounce-back.
The Buccaneers playing staff
Baker Mayfield is the centerpiece, a quarterback who has earned Pro Bowl nods in Tampa and now gets a play-caller built to maximize him. The new staff has emphasized developing the offense’s younger players around him.
Bowles’s defense has to rediscover its edge after a difficult season, particularly against the pass. The division is wide open, which keeps the Buccaneers in the hunt, but the late-2025 collapse means the consistency has to be proven before this is a trusted playoff team.
