Cincinnati Bengals
Playoff History

Next game odds, season schedule, playoff path, Super Bowl history.

For thirty-one years the Bengals could not win a single playoff game. Thirty-one. From 1991 right through to January 2022, every January ended the same way, and a fanbase learned to brace for it the way mine learned to brace for missed kicks. Then Joe Burrow walked in and broke it, and the whole thing came down at once.

The drought, and the run that ended it

When it finally broke it did not break quietly. The 2021 Bengals beat the Raiders for that first win in three decades, then beat Tennessee on the road, then went to Kansas City for the AFC Championship, fell behind 21-3, and came all the way back to win 27-24 in overtime. A team that could not win one January game won three in a month and reached a Super Bowl. They lost it late to the Rams, but the dam was gone.

Back to the cold

The follow-up was another deep run the next season, an AFC Championship loss at Kansas City by a field goal, and then the door eased shut again. Injuries and near-misses, a few seasons watching January from the couch. The relief of 2021 has had to last a while.

One legendary drought, one cathartic run, and a quarterback who is still the reason to believe the next one is coming. Bengals fans, you waited thirty-one years and then got a month you will tell your kids about. I know the exact shape of that wait. The end of it is worth everything it cost.
